Get Ready Brethren!

Well, there goes my trip to DC next year.

I was toying with the idea of going to Washington D.C. next February to participate in the Masonic Week activities that happen there every year. But after reading about the impending release of the new Dan Brown book, The Solomon Key, I know I'll never get a hotel!

According to the article, Robert Langdon the hero of The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons will once again save the day.

If all goes to form, Brown will have Langdon provide the correct (not the ones we received from 300 years of instruction and tradition) interpretation of the symbolism hidden in the various Masonic buildings, temples, streets and door knockers in the city. Then he and his hot-chick-co-conspirator will evade the DC Police, FBI and maybe even the CIA to eventually save the day. There's no clue whether we are the good guys, bad guys or unwitting stooges.

Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against Dan Brown. He tells good stories that have you leaving indentations on the cover of the book. But let's face it. He gets stuff wrong!

We all know the problems and inaccuracies he had with theology and history in his previous two outings. There's not much hope that will have changed. His research seems shoddy. The same article mentions that Brown had only a brief encounter with the members of Grand Lodge of D.C. That seems to imply (at least to me) that he may not be that interested in facts or other mundane things. Let's at least hope he stays away from the Baigent and Leigh books this time!

My advice to the brethren of Bangkok is to make sure you and your fellows are educated on actual Masonry. There is no doubt this book will receive huge publicity. It will spark interest and will likely be a world-wide best seller. Many curious men will begin asking questions about our Craft. We'd better understand what we want to tell them!
