Archbishop Promotes Freemason to Bishop

The Telegraph reports today that Dr. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Cantebury and head of the Church of England, named the Rev. Jonathan Baker as the next Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

Upon his appointment, Rev. Baker had been a Freemason for over 20 years and was very active in the organization. Dr. Williams has a long history opposing the Craft, so this appointment of an "out" Freemason seemed very out of character.  The article highlights Dr. Williams various public statements against Freemasonry including "Three S's" (Satanic, secretive and sexist).

While Masons might look at this as an indication that Rev. Williams may have opened his mind a bit (or perhaps been corrupted by our secretly Satanic world-wide organization), the other shoe hit shortly after the appointment.
"Last week, as news of Fr Baker’s membership of the Masons began to circulate through the Church, it provoked growing concern and criticism from clergy and members of the General Synod."
These nameless critics eventually forced Fr Baker to resign from his active membership.  So, fear and ignorance win the day once more.

The Thai Freemason is the independent voice of Freemasonry in Thailand.
