2008 Scottish Installations (a.k.a. "Haggis-fest")

OK brethren,

Looks like DGLME have set the dates and locations for the 2008 Scottish Installations. I have long labeled this exciting weekend as "Haggis-fest" due to the copious amounts of haggis (and of course Scotch) consumed.

Like last year, the four Scottish lodges will divide their installations over two days in two locations.

Feb 15th - Lodge St John and Lodge Ratanakosin will hold their installations and then a joint harmony at the Lodge St John Masonic Hall in Bangkok.

Feb 16th - Lodge Lane Xang will travel west and hold their installation and a combined harmony with Lodge Pattaya West Winds at the Royal Cliff Grand Resort in Pattaya.

Make sure to mark your calendars and dust off your dinner jacket. This is usually a great time.

Celebrating Universal Brotherhood

An article caught my eye from the Pune (India) Newsline

Pune, June 25: FREEMASONS in the city celebrated universal brotherhood day on Sunday.

The brotherhood believes in secularism and their motto is to study the mysteries of science and nature. There are as many as 10 million Freemasons around the globe. In Pune there are nine lodges with two temples and a membership of around 250.

The first Freemason Lodge in India was formed in Kolkata in 1735. It spread to Mumbai and then to other parts of India. Currently there are 352 lodges under the Grand Lodge of India. Notable Indian Freemasons include Swami Vivekananda, Motilal Nehru, JRD Tata, Rajendra Prasad and S Radhakrishnan.

See the full article at here.

The article goes on to describe the Craft in India and its long history there. To its credit, the Grand Lodge of India are very active in their communities sponsoring hospitals and even ambulances. Please visit their site when you get a chance.

Tracing Board and Mark Lodge Updates

Brethren all,

Things have been very busy lately, so here's a combination update for you.

Tracing Board

Just to let you know, we've uploaded a few articles to a new on-line version of The Tracing Board. Stop by and take a look. Let me know if you have any problems accessing it.

Phuket Mark Lodge

Brethren in Phuket have been quiet but apparently very busy getting the kingdom's first mark lodge up and running. They've launched a new site which features various levels of entry (depending on your affiliation with the Craft).

Master Masons interested in becoming a founding member of the new Mark Lodge should contact the lodge.

Informal Gathering

Brethren all,

I would like to invite you all to an informal gathering of Masonic brethren and guests to be held at 7 p.m. at the Londoner (located at the beginning of Sukhumvit Soi 33) on Thursday, June 21st at 7 p.m.

Members from all lodges and constitutions are invited.

Sit down and stay a while or just drop by for a quick drink – totally up to you.
There is no ceremony, no agenda, no dress code – it is just a night to have fun.

If you are planning to come please let me know (if you can ), but just showing up is fine as well.

Note that we have no budget for this so everything will be on a “buy your own” basis.

Hope to see you all there!

June Events

Brethren all,

I'm on the verge of being late with this, but luckily I realized I had to flip my calendar today. So herewith is your update for June.

June is a busy month for French Lodges. My calendar has Tantawan, Hoa Sen and Foederis Arca meeting in Bangkok this weekend. Star in the East will meet on 15th June in Bangkok. Tantawan will also host the Festival of St. John (the Evangelist) on 23rd June.

The Irish will hold two meetings this month. Morakot will meet in Bangkok on 6th June. Songkhla will meet down south on the 30th.

The English also meet twice this month. Chula first in Bangkok on the 16th and Light of Siam in Phuket on the 30th.

That leaves the Scottish to finish out the month with two meetings. Lane Xang will meet on the 20th and St. John on the 27th. Both meetings to be held in the Lodge St John Masonic Temple in Bangkok.

As always, check with the lodge secretary for details on visiting.

Enjoy your month!
